However, researchers in the UK have identified 3 cat food brands, which were recalled in 2021, that contained the fungus mycotoxin which can cause any number of diseases.
In this case, it’s believed that the fungus caused feline pancytopenia, or a loss of blood cells, in hundreds of cats that resulted in the deaths of over 350 of them. The outbreak was further attributed to the presence of infected potato flakes in the foods.
