Researchers in the United Kingdom have just published a study that analyzed the DNA of bacteria found in dog feces.  The analysis found the presence of E. coli and other bacterial strains that are resistant to common antibiotics like amoxicillin.  Additionally, the researchers found similar bacteria in human urinary tract infections in the study area which shows that contaminated meats are not only dangerous to dogs (and cats), but also to their human companions.

The scientists wrote: “If owners insist on feeding raw meat to their dog, it is essential that they fully understand this practice puts their dog at risk of becoming colonised with bacteria resistant to critically important antibacterials.”
