To transition your cat to a new food, follow these steps over a period of 7-10 days:
- Mix 25% new food with 75% old food.
- Mix 50% new food with 50% old food.
- Mix 75% new food with 25% old food.
- Feed 100% new food.
If your cat is hesitant to try the new food, you can try warming it up slightly, adding a small amount of water, or mixing it with a bit of canned food. You can also try hand-feeding your cat at first.
It is important to be patient and consistent during the transition process. Some cats may adjust to the new food quickly, while others may need more time. Consult your pet food’s feeding instructions too. If your cat experiences any digestive upset, such as vomiting or diarrhea, slow down the transition process or consult with your veterinarian.
